From African traditions comes an exciting program that immerses the audience in rhythm. In African society, music is an indispensable element in social and religious rites. These percussion workshops enable participants of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to experience the pulsating rhythms and instruments of Africa for themselves!

This incursion showcases the unique beauty and power of traditional Asian performing arts through a mix of famous dances and arts from countries such as Vietnam, China, Japan, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia, from the Japanese Samurai to Chinese martial arts and colourful traditional dances.

Developed by African slaves at least 400 years ago as a form of self defence disguised as dance, Capoeira has been handed down through generations in urban Brazil. Capoeira is an exciting sport mixing fighting, dancing and music. The emphasis is not on how well you perform, but on how much energy you commit to trying!

Defying gravity, Ms Liu and Peter Wang perform an enthralling program of traditional Chinese balancing and magic tricks - an exciting performance full of energy and magic. Students take part in a performance of magic and learn the red ribbon dance and Chinese juggling techniques.

Split your sides as our Commedia dell ’Arte duo, take you on a journey of improvisation based on 15th Century Italian classical theatre. It’s loud, dramatic and clever comedy. Cultural Infusion’s interactive program is suitable for primary and secondary audiences, and includes Italian language that is accessible to beginner Italian students and above.

High energy schuhplatteln, meaning ‘slapping the shoe soles’, is intricate and athletic German country dancing. The performers are in costume and demonstrate traditional polkas and waltzes to the accompaniment of accordion. You’ll be keen to get on the dance floor to learn the steps.

Exotic India beckons. Learn how to call with the eyes and talk with the hands! Vimala brings stories from Indian culture. Try simple rhythms with the feet and how to take up an exquisite pose. Incursion encompasses – mime, myths, footwork, body, hand, eye and head movements.

Explore the language of Indonesia, the magic of Indonesian Gamelan music and the colourful dancing of Bali with Tari Gambelan. Celebrate the expressive arts of our northern neighbour, learn some Balinese dance steps, play the Gamelan instruments and gain valuable insights into the Indonesian ceremonial world and culture.

Meet Assyrian musicians whose language and culture dates back 4000 years. See a high-energy show featuring Arabic and Assyrian songs and learn traditional dance steps.
