Professional artists/performers from diverse cultural backgrounds, deliver live, interactive incursions to encourage intercultural dialogue in a fun, flexible way. Our incursions are suitable for Drama, Theatre, Music, English, LOTE, SOSE, Human Movement, Cultural Studies and many more!

Cultural Infusion's Incursion Program is designed to encourage harmony, diversity and inclusiveness by helping students understand other cultures and appreciate other people's belief and lifestyles through lively interaction. Africa - One Africa

From African traditions comes an exciting program that immerses the audience in rhythm. In African society, music is an indispensable element in social and religious rites. These percussion workshops enable participants of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to experience the pulsating rhythms and instruments of Africa for themselves!

Asia Minor - Stephanos Eleftheriadis

Pontus, the name given to the region of today’s northern Turkey coastline, has a mixed population of Turkish, Greek, Laz and Armenian people, a unique dialect and a love for music and dance. Stephanos Eleftheriadis, an active member of the Melbourne Pontian Community since aged 5 demonstrates Omalia, Trigona, Patoula, Pitsiak (knife) and Serra (war) Dances and plays the Kemence, Touloumi (bagpipe), Daouly (drum) and Gaval.

Brazil - Cool Capoeira

Developed by African slaves at least 400 years ago as a form of self-defence disguised as dance, Capoeira has been handed down through generations in urban Brazil. Capoeira is an exciting sport mixing fighting, dancing and music. The emphasis is not on how well you perform, but on how much energy you commit to trying.

China - Chinese Acrobat

Lee’s performances are lively and exciting; she is an astounding acrobat and performs spellbinding feats with the Diablo – an ancient Chinese spinning instrument. Audiences will be in awe of her remarkable talent that makes even the most complex moves seem effortless!

China - Silk Road

Explore the history of China’s Silk Road via the Mu Lan Fan Dance. This enchanting program engages everyone in the history and skilful moves of Fan dancing, mastering the balance between Kung Fu and soft feminine movements.

China - Wu Shi Lion Dancers

Bringing good fortune, prosperity and longevity, the Chinese Lion Dance celebrates an ancient culture that is alive and well in Australia today! The lion costume is operated by dancers who mimick a lion by forming the fore and hind legs and moving the eyes and headpiece.

China - Zheng Ting




The Sheng is a complex bamboo mouth organ dating back almost 2000 years. Ting's mastery of this traditional Chinese instrument is unrivalled in Australia.Ting tailors his traditional Chinese music programs to include demonstrations of lantern and kite making.

Germany - Schuhplaitler Volkstanz

Schuhplatteln, means ‘slapping the shoe soles’ but also includes thigh-slapping, hand-clapping, twirling and waltzing. This high energy intricate and athletic country dancing includes traditional polkas and waltzes ranging from Northern Germany to Southern Austria. Each demonstration is accompanied by explanations of the context and the stories associated with each. Students are inspired to get on the dance floor to learn the steps.

Greece - Greece is the Word

Learn about the different styles of Greek dancing, the intricate costumes from various regions, and discover the history and culture of this beautiful nation.

India - Bollywood

Bollywood dancing is enjoying unprecedented popularity due to the Bollywood film industry. Bollywood fuses rap, raga, latin and hip-hop into a lively mixture of folk, classical, global and local traditions. This incursion allows an understanding of the history and the meaning behind the dances in a highly energetic interactive program.

Indigenous - Western Creation

Give children an opportunity to learn about Aboriginal culture through hands on experience that they can relate to.This incursion promotes reconciliation and understanding between all people in Australia. It uses many aspects of Aboriginal culture, including dance, music, song, art and stories.

Italy - Ciao Italia

 

This program introduces Italian musical culture in an educational and entertaining context. Italian lyrics with English translations, multi-media visuals are used to portray Italian architecture, art and other aspects of Italian life such as the famous Teatro alla Scala Opera House in Milan, Napoli's celebrated folk songs and the modern San Remo Festival.

Italy - Commedie dell'Arte

Split your sides as our nationally acclaimed Commedia dell’Arte duo, Mattopancetta, take you on a hilarious journey of improvisation based on 15th Century Italian classical theatre. Cultural Infusion’s interactive program is suitable for primary and secondary audiences and includes Italian language that is accessible to beginner Italian students and above.

Middle East - Underbelly

 

Discover the exotic world of Belly dance as Underbelly shimmy their way into your classroom. This colourful, fun and educational show entails live Belly dance and music performances using a variety of traditional instruments, costumes and props. Interactive games and stories are used to teach the children Belly dance moves and rhythms and the significance of music and dance in Middle Eastern culture.

South America - Inka Marka

Andean music is traditional music from Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Chili. Our energetic performances include traditional and contemporary music from this region. The music includes strong lively songs, to slow, ethereal and mystical melodies of the Inka nation of times past and almost forgotten.

Spain - Salero Flamenco

Overflowing with passion, what better way to express authentic Spanish heritage and culture than the Flamenco dance? Learn the folkloric traditions of the Sevianus dance, the use of castanets, Spanish guitar and ‘palmas’ clapping.

Sudan - Ajak Kwai

Ajak performs songs of the timeless Dinka musical tradition of Southern Sudan. Her unique vocal style is distinctly Saharan, combining her local dialect with Arabic and English to express her deep philosophical and global concerns in heartfelt songs of love and hope.

Urban Australian Dance - Lamaroc

It’s all about feelin’ the music and moovin’ smooth in a street-smart way. Our B-boys and B-girls will show you how to be cool—with breakdancing, turntablism, deejaying, emceeing, rapping and urban art. Lamaroc has held the Australian Hip-Hop Championship since 2002.
