‘Genesis - an origin, creation, or beginning’
Cultural Infusion proudly presents Cypher Sapiens in Genesis, a distinctive Hip Hop piece, exploring the evolution of Hip Hop dance.
Cypher Sapiens will dispel myths and stereotypes, and give audiences the opportunity to appreciate Hip Hop as both a high energy dance genre and an effective theatrical medium.
A progressive physical theatre piece, Genesis explores the evolution of three dancers through the metaphor of the history of planet earth. Combining elements of theatre, multimedia and contemporary dance the characters of Genesis come to life through 30 years of Funk and Hip Hop, travelling to the past and future to different eras of Rock, Jazz, Funk and everything in between.
The production offers an explosive performance, exposing audiences to different genres of dance such as Popping, animation, Locking and B-Boying. This performance takes audiences on a journey throughout the history of hip hop culture, it provides audiences with the understanding of the art forms origin, it’s development and how it has come to be ingrained in pop culture.
Cultural Infusion’s successful 2009 Australian tour, included states QLD - WA – VIC – SA – NSW. Tour included over 32 venues and festivals, such as;

Bios
Anthony ‘Lamaroc’ Lawang
Lamaroc has been active in the B-Boy scene for 10 years. As a member of the ‘Fresh Sox’ crew (4 times OZ B-BOY Champions), Lamaroc has travelled to the United States, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, Singapore and throughout Australia competing and performing. He is one of the most active dancers in Australia under the realm of Funkstyles (Popping & Locking) having performed and toured with the ‘Cat Empire’ in 2003/2004 and also with DJ Dexta and the ‘Daily Shook Crew’.
Lamaroc has battled Alien Ness of the ZULU KINGS (NY), Ronnie of the FULL FORCE /SUPA CREW (LAS VEGAS) and RYOMA of MORTAL KOMBAT (JAPAN) and was part of the winning crew of the FREESTYLE SESSION JAPAN (Nov 2005) Style Vale-Tudo Crew. Also having won best B-Boy of the month in March (Osaka, Japan) at the B1 Survival and taking out the Melbourne leg of Battle City coming rstplace with partner B-Boy Mousa (Fresh Sox, Founder).
Lamaroc’s latest achievements include being involved in Contemporary physical theatre arts such as “Paradise City” from Branch Nebula in Brazil (Oct 2007). This piece which played at the Sydney Opera House, (Dec 2006) and most recently toured Dance Festivals in Brazil (Oct - Nov 2007) involves the mixture of talents of a singer, contemporary dancer, acrobat, flatland BMX rider, a freestyle skateboarder and a B-Boy.

Schools Program
Cultural Infusion proudly presents the Cypher Sapiens, a distinctive Hip Hop trio, providing students with the opportunity to discover the foundations and history of the dance style and its culture. The program allows students to gain a better understanding of how the style has developed, exploring the evolution of Hip Hop dance in a variety of program formats, accommodating students of all ages and skill level. The program is flexible with school timetables, and can include long term residencies.
Cypher Sapiens Performance (50 minutes)
Combining elements of dance, theatre and explosive multimedia, Cypher Sapiens takes students on a journey through the evolution of Hip Hop dance. Featuring B-Boying, Popping and Locking, our internationally recognised artist’s will captivate students providing them with a non - stop action packed performance, showcasing the history of the art form.
Cypher Sapiens Workshops (50 minutes)
B-Boying, Popping and Locking; Workshop includes the foundation of each style, right through to ground breaking choreography, as seen today in pop culture. All three Artists provide workshops, accommodating students of all ages, gender, and skill level. The program is flexible with school timetables, and can include long term residencies.

The half day program will include both performance and work shop. Students will have the opportunity to gain an in depth understanding of each style, by teaching them the foundation of this popular art form. The day will conclude with the students showcasing what they have learnt throughout the day, in a final performance.
